56 Million Active Facebook Users in Arab World

According to AFP, that’s the number of active users in the Arab world now using facebook (see link).

And their use as we all know is not passive by any means – a possible behavioral resistance to some of the political and cultural climates they find themselves in. Much of it has been transformational such as in the organizing of the Arab Spring uprisings.

That’s the power of technology and social media which have become more accessible, and contributing to this new phenomenon in which Philip Kotler and Hermawan Kartajaya have so aptly described in their book “Marketing 3.0“, as the age of participation, collaborative value creation and independent communication.
