Good design is part of of the deen of Islam. But can a central tenet of Islam, that is tauhid or oneness and unity, also guide good design?

This is an excellent article written by Ustaz Shahib Amin from Syukran on the concept of unity in Islam and its application in design, with practical examples given. In his article, he writes:

“Unity is not just important in design but it is also part of the principles of Islam. During the Islamic renaissance, an abbasid caliph designed an entire city with unity in mind by architecting the city in a circular form, with the mosque purposely constructed to be at the center of all activities!”
